Yes, you can remove them. Once they germinate, they prefer it a little bit cooler in my experience. At least, I have never noticed anything gained from keeping them on the mat, except it helps with not using so much dadgum electricity lol.

Just answered this question over on the Growing from Seed forum. Heat mats are for germination only. Once sprouts appear, remove from the heat to avoid damage to the seedlings.
