My Spanish Roja look the same. :) what kind are you growing?

I am very excited that mine are up and growing.
We had a great spring day today. I spent it in the yard working on the garden area, getting ready.

RE: Garlic Update

They are Red Russian Garlic. I am going to be preparing a bed this month for vegetables like Lettuce, or Broccoli that I will be using for the Garlic crop next fall.

Nice, dark soil! The plants look good to, but the soil caught my eye first. :)

Thanks, it was an old neglected pile of Manure that was sitting in that spot for 10 years, andone or two years ago, I spent 16 hours weeding it. I then spread it out. I was able to pitch fork about a foot or more down fairly easily.

I started inside my plants are now 3 inches tall for the regular garlic. The elephant garlic plants are over 5 inches. I need to break the soil but the garden soil still frozen.

RE: Garlic Update

I plant my garlic in the fall in September. My first frost is Oct. 15th I have never had any luck growing garlic in the spring. It get to hot here to soon. They never bulbed up. My garlic is 12+ inches high. After it comes up I mulch around the plants with pine needles. In the winter if we are going to get a hard freeze say below 26F I will cover the plant with more pine needles or row cover. I uncover after the temp. is above 32F. I have just let it grow without covering. I have seen the grown frozen and the plants look dead. But when spring cane they all re- sprouted and grew fast. In the fall the thing you want to grow is the roots. Good fall root growth gives the plants a boost in the spring and they take off.

RE: Garlic Update

All of my garlic came up since Jan. It's my first time growing them and it's experiment because I have no idea if they'll perform well in my containers so I'll see this summer. I echo others, your field looks great.

No pictures because I'm not at home at the moment. Stuffradio, I heard today that the spring forecast at Vancouver will be below the normal temperature.

RE: Garlic Update

Aindra, I heard that too, but they also said normal to below normal precipitation.

I'm not sure how big the Garlic will get if you planted in January. I've only used the October method for planting Garlic. Good luck to your harvest though! :)

RE: Garlic Update

Oh nooo, sorry for misunderstanding. I planted my garlic early October. The tops started to grow since Jan. Haha.

The precipitation is normal though? The below normal forecast is little north of Vancouver. (provided the link if you'd like to read the source.) Which is bummer. I miss sun.
