No. I am too busy with the summer seedlings, mending the fence, new squash trellis, and finishing some mushroom logs. It is an awful spring and everything is late. You can not really expect anything uncovered to emerge before the daffodils, and here we are just starting to see a few (and indeed my uncovered arugula is up). No daffodils, no worry. Arugula will show up first, and beets will show up last.

No. Like glib there is far too much other stuff to do to spend time staring at a blank patch of soil. Plus unlike many, I direct seed only with proper soil temps for the particular vegetable germination. Do that and you don't have to wait long at all.

Yes. I planted spinach, chard & radishes and spent a lot of time walking around the various beds wondering. Finally (because I was away for a week) they all sprouted. The watched teapot phenomenon.

This is precisely why I started to pre-sprout in coffee filters and ziplock bags. Plus, like most gardening addicts, I accumulated way too many seeds, which get old, so pre-sprouting lets me know for sure whether I have viable seed or not. Once the seeds show a tiny root emerging, into the garden they go.

I'm the same way. Here's my story. I direct planted and a lot of stuff did not come up. So I planted again indoors. Now more than six weeks later some of my direct planted seeds are sprouting. The seeds I planted indoors three weeks ago have produced plants larger than the ones I direct seeded over six weeks ago. Now I have more plants than I can use and I'm not sure which ones I should keep.lol
