Is this veggie or weed?

One of my gardening faults lies in labeling, or lack thereof. So when I found this plant growing feverishly, I let it go. Finally I pulled it and this is the root. So my question: veggie or weed?

Without the leaves it's hard to tell what it is from just a white root. The leaf stalks that are left lead me to believe that it could be a radish (I'm not 100% certain though).

Did you plant parsnips?

The root looks a lot like a parsnip... but I have no idea what their foliage looks like. I've never grown them, just use store-bought for cooking.

The cut off stalks do not look like parsnip - it looks more like a Brassica.

This is the leaf structure, plus it has small pinkish flowers.BTW I have quite a few growing randomly throughout my yard.

Looks like a daikon radish to me.

Agreed root looks like parsnip but stems say brassica - so a radish is likely.

I vote daikon radish as well.

I vote don't eat anything you're not sure of! ;-D

Here is a picture of a daikon plant and root.

Sorry that I'm just piling on here, but the link shows a common weed in our area.

Thank you Terry. Yes, the wild radish flower is exactly right. I will toss. I have a lot of others to pull. Thanks everyone!

Very interesting. Looks like you can eat them. I saw some brassica-looking flowers in someone's yard the other day and was wondering how they would've gotten there. Although I'm so curious as to what the root looks like, I don't plan to pull it. :) So I guess yours is a veggie and a weed.

Guess it's like wild raspberries or blueberries or any other native, wild edible... you can certainly eat them, even if you didn't intend on growing them... lots of info on edibility in the link below. Now I kind of wish I had one to try!

To me, both the root and leaves look like some kind of radish, probably long day type. If you have ever grown any kind of radish ,should be able to recognize if indeed it is radish, just by looking at it and smelling
