My poor tomatoes!

My tomatoes might be doing the back stroke this weekend. 3-6 inches of rain predicted and the ground is already saturated from weekly rains.

Ooh, vegetables that massage you while you are gardening. What a great idea!

That sucks zackey. Georgia's really gotten beat down lately huh?

Hope they come through. There's always the nurseries.

terry the back stroke is a swimming term. That's what I swam in high school when I was on swim team.
I know I can buy more. I already spent 20 bucks on the plants from a gardening class and they are heirlooms. Hard to find in the stores here.

I know, zacky. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to add a little humor since there isn't much you can do about 6" of rain.

Sorry! I didn't get it before. Well, it seems like we might have only gotten an inch so far. We still have to get thru today. I wish my rain gauge hadn't fell apart.

Get that rain jacket and a shovel and get out there! Backstrokers are usually tall and lean, and can be some of the best mid distance freestylers as well - this is also an excellent body type to have for ditch digging!

Seriously, that is an amazing amount of rain - might as well get out there to see where there are drainage problems. Try to minimize standing water. Best of luck!

Poor tomatoes. I hope that the water from the rain runs off soon and that they are fine.

They are on a mound of soil with a moat around it. I don't think I can improve on that.

RE: My poor tomatoes!

Just this past Thursday alone we got about 2" of rain. It rains almost constantly up here. And the thing is that we get NO run off, because the rain is very gentle. It never pours down like down in GA. That is why I have raised bed with well drained soil. I have also covered the beds with black plastic , leaving just a 8" circle hole for the tomatoes. So most of the water runs off.

If you get standing water in the moat, can you drain it? Use a hose for a syphon? Bail with a bucket?

Here is how we grow tomatoes when it's overly wet.
