Corn for 2014

This year a friend and I are trying something new. We both have a problem with deer and raccoons (and maybe an errant cow or two). Our gardens are bout 5 miles apart. We are both planting two types, the first is an early maturing (60 days) bi-colored sweet corn called "Quickie" (Hybrid SE/se f-1) and SURROUNDING the patch of Quickie we are planting a generous stand of "Country Gentleman" a white heirloom style sweet corn (Shoepeg style Open Pollinated) that matures in about 90 days. Deer and Raccoons are rumored not to bother the 'Country Gentleman' and we hope that it will protect the much earlier maturing Quickie corn. With the different maturity dates we do not believe we will have nay cross-pollination problems.

Have any of you fellow corn growers tried this? What do you think?
