Garden bed 6 months of useable light

Just wondering how many of you get a complete year of usable light from your garden beds. We have a tall retaining wall in our back yard (house faces east) and a fence on that so it's quite tall AND a tree line behind 1/3 of our back yard and I just realized we aren't going to get sun beyond 3:00 or 4:00 at the end of October from looking at pics we took before we moved in (this pic taken taken Oct 22). That means maybe a 6 month out of the year bed, is that a decent time frame? Right now beds get about 8 hours of sun. I wanted to do a winter garden with kale and such but I am a l concerned there won't be enough light. Garden is in raised beds where shed is in this picture. Thanks!

Catsgurleygirl (with a name like that, you could be my youngest daughter), I could ask a lot of questions, and write about local climate, cloud cover, radiation cooling, etc., but I hate typing on this pad and especially making corrections.

So I'll just make this suggestion: Try anything you want, get some experience, and go henceforth. I hope you will be staying in that beautiful home for many years.

Just sow the seeds and you'll find out if it's enough light...

Check this site out too, you can plug in different times of year to see the suns pattern....

Thanks for your kind words and responses. I know we can try planting there, I was just trying to avoid having to move huge heavy beds along with the dirt, but we already made the beds so we are committed now :).
