Angel, good for you! But, uh, you might have wait 5 years. Sorry if this sounds sarcastic, but you did say "plant" and not "plants." I hope you planted a whole bunch, in which case you can probably start snipping in as little as a month (be sure to leave at least 3 or 4 inches growing.) -Terry

I have started with one but it sprouted in five days so I will start more. I am growing them in containers. I do not use chives a lot and am growing them more as a starter plants.

I have soo many damn chives in my yard, you're happy to have as many as you want, just bring a shovel and help me dig.. Actually, I planned on digging up that bed filled with chives this weekend and putting up a raised bed for corn or something tall, considering it's on the very north of the property...

I cut them down to the bottom. If you just cut a few inches off they will turn yellow and die. Just cut a few stems.

"I do not use chives a lot ..." Ah, but up until now you haven't had a good fresh supply at hand. You'll be adding them to all sorts of things soon. BTW don't ever cook them. Add them to cold foods or right before serving. They go with almost anything salady, eggy, mayonnaisey, tomatoey, cheesy, potatoey, pastaey, fishy ...... Don't wait until you find a recipe. Just chuck them in. Experiment.

Zackey- She has new seedlings, not established bulbs. Consider these onion seedlings that have been cut back about 5 times so far.
