Well I think this is what I'm going to do, it may be a little over ambitious but I think most gardeners probably suffer from that somewhat. :-) The space is not large by any means, it's only about between 600 - 800 ft.. I am doing raised beds in the areas marked because of really poor drainage issues there. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, I'm open to ideas or suggestions. You can't really tell from the picture, but the area marked Winter squash over the retaining wall has about 5 feet of plantable area behind it that we will plant and let run down the slope. Thanks!

The other idea was to level out and border the whole bed, it seems as though there is a slight slope toward the tallest part of the retaining wall that may do well to be filled in with dirt and just level out across the whole bed. The problem with that is that I would have to be walking on the bed a lot and compacting the soil but I guess there are ways to get around that too. The green lines are there to indicate where rows would be. Everything's a little curved because it's a panoramic picture and it's a little wonky.:)

Looks like a nice sunny spot! When does that shade hit the tomato area? I'd go with plan A because its your first year in this location, and you will learn about the characteristics of each area as you grow this season. Plus, it's more exciting to get planting right away then to get involved in construction/terraforming projects that take too long and end up delaying your planting - believe me I've done this several years. I'd just get a whole bunch of compost and get going :) ~emmers

That would be the obvious concern to me to - all that shade on the tomatoes. Dave
