Growing veggies in a grass plot

Last year was my first year of gardening, I started small and absolutely loved it. So this year I added a little more area to the garden. However now I think even that is not enough. So I tilled a little section of my backyard which was fully grass covered. I took out all the grass that I could. This was done in the last 20 days. Now my question is, without doing anything else, what veggies can be grown here? I mean with all the grass roots still there, is there any veggies that might do better than others?

Thanks.
