I have two trellises in one long bed that I'm planting pole beans and cucumbers on. One trellis has sun longer than the other one, so I'm trying to decide which one to grow on the sunnier trellis. Off the top of my head, I would think it is the cucumber that needs more sun, but I thought I would ask here before I sow seed today.

From what I know you should place the cucumbers in the sunnier spot as they have large leaves and they need enough sun to be able to produce cucumbers also beans can tolerate cooler temperatures.

Agree. The cucumbers. Although there isn't that much difference between their needs. But beans, especially bush beans, will be a bit more tolerant of a little shade than cukes will. Dave

I like to think in terms of the "fruit" that the vegetable will make. The larger the fruit, the more sun it needs. So I would put the cucs in the sunnier area.

Thank you! With new vegetable beds in place, the sun exposure is a little different than it was and it was a pleasant surprise to see that section get another hour of sun. Cukes it is. :-) Good way of thinking of it too Catherine.
