Ok this year decided to start my asparagus beds.
Bought two types. Some are coming out the ground already which I though didn't happen till 2 years. Can I eat them already? What did I buy please help.

what? they come out of the ground right away, if a little bit later (one week or two) than an established plant. You can not eat them until 2 years later. They need to store food to survive the whacking you will give them every year.

RE: Asparagus

That did not help. Let me rephrase.
This is the first year ...
Can I eat the asparagus that come this first year? If not when?
If not what do I do with then at end of season? Chop them down?

Looks like you planted the crown upside down and have roots coming out of the ground. They don't look like spears. Maybe that's because I'm on my phone though. Unless the one in that top photo is still in the bag it came in.

The plants will sprout this year. And no, you do not harvest any this year. They need to grow and fern and store energy for next year (and the years after).

They will start to grow this year, but they need the tops to grow the plant's roots. I wouldn't harvest any next year, then a few the next year and then more the next.

I think the first pic is what it looked like in the package that she/he first got.

So just let then grow this summer. At the end of summer just leave them don't cut then down At all? Correct?

RE: Asparagus

When they turn brown, cut them down to the ground. This will be late, like November.

Good to see you back here!

I leave my asparagus ferns up all winter, then cut them in the spring.

RE: Asparagus

Sorry for all the pics but yes I have been very busy. Also adding more hot peppers today. I'm pretty familiar with everything I am growing except soybean and asparagus.

Any info or help on these two veggies would be great.
