What is this?!

Help! I planted my small bed of shade veggies and before I could put my top layer of vegetable soil on, it rained badly and my seeds washed all around. Now I have hardly any idea what the seedlings are and these ones pictured are all over. But I don't know what it is! I want to make sure I didn't somehow get a weed in there!

I think those might all be weeds- I see a lambs quarters for sure, a handful of some sort of annual grass (looks a little like corn), and one larger grassy thing that I would guess is a nutsedge maybe? Sorry.

I had similar plants grow - do you have a bird feeder? Mine was from bird seed.

Looks like crabgrass.

some kind of grass.

Definitely the tallest one is nut grass. A very bad weed to have. Dig straight down at least 6 inches and try to get the entire plant. It makes a thread thin dark brown root that goes down and has a "nut" on it. It also puts out white runners from the base of the leaves. Try really hard to get it all. It spreads like wildfire.

NEVER put them in your compost pile! I always throw them on the ground and crush the nuts with my foot. Then put them in the garbage.

The nuts will stay dormant in the soil for years and then return when conditions are right (wet). They can be conquered, but it takes dogged persistence.

If it's not nut grass, then it likely is crabgrass.

 o
RE: What is this?!

I think it's both

 o
RE: What is this?!

Yup. All weeds.
But at least you can eat the lambs quarters.

 o
RE: What is this?!

Yep, Lambsquarter, crabgrass, and nut sedge.

RE: What is this?!

Weeds. Soon you will be able to positively identify a weed vs. A seedling :)

 o
RE: What is this?!

I think they look like corn. Did you plant any corn?

 o
RE: What is this?!

Lamb's quarters (edible, but don't let it go to seed!), nut sedge (Very Bad News), and definitely crabgrass (don't let it go to seed either!).

RE: What is this?!

The "nuts" from nutsedge are edible if you're into that sort of thing.
