Has anyone ever tried using a hanging bast to grow cucumbers in?

You'd need a big one. Try a hanging very large bucket or hanging barrel.

I bought a "hanging cucumber" one year and it was great. I also have seen "hanging cucumber seeds" on line. Supposedly they are special, but I think they really aren't. Every year I plant my cukes in large planters at the edge of my front stairs and they hang down the wall and grow great! I have used both spacemaster and regular ones, but for a hanging basket, I'd use spacemaster or picklebush types.

Here's a pic of mine in bloom.

The one I bought was just a white plastic hanging basket like you'd get anywhere. I would use a larger one though, 14 or 16 inches - and that ought to be fine if you only do a couple plants.
