Vertical melon trellis, which side to plant on?

I'm planting watermelons and cantaloupes this year and constructed a sturdy 6' high trellis. It's about 3-4 feet wide at the base. If I make raised mounds/rows, should I plant them on the inside or outside of the trellis?

Unless your trellis somehow blocks the sun, I don't think it matters. The idea of the trellis is to give the plant something to wind around, so it will end up on both sides as it grows.

A trellis doesn't usually have an "inside" or "outside" so could you clarify what you mean? Do you mean it is an arch? If it is an arch then outside. Dave

Oh, sorry. Forgot to mention that it is an A-frame trellis.

Ahh, then yes. Outside, as Dave said.

Makes sense now that I think about it. Thanks for the input everyone.
