What's up with lightning bugs and potatoes

I examine my potato plants daily to check on their bud formation. Almost every bud cluster has a lightning bug sitting on it...kind of nestled in. Does anyone know why this is?

Never had them bother my plants so that is a new one for me also, Maybe find a spray for them.

Good grief jimmy56! Don't spray anything unless there is damage to the plant.

I checked Wikipedia. It said that some species feed on pollen and nectar. Since I find them on the bud cluster, I guess that's what it's all about.

dirtguy, That is true with some crops, But other crops I spray before the damage is done, Don't want all the work going down the drain.

Potatoes do not need flowers to produce tubers. Let the lightning bugs live.

Lightning bugs add to the joy in my life. I would never knowingly kill them.

The lightning bugs are a good thing! They eat slugs and snails. Slugs and snails might be feeding on your potato tubers.

Just in case, if you're not familiar with the Colorado Potato Beetle, do a quick image search and make sure you're not seeing those guys instead. (They could look vaguely similar.)

That said, I haven't killed the CPBs either - they don't seem to do too much damage in my situation.
