My outdoor sink. I love this thing as it keeps so much dirt and debris out of my kitchen..

RuthieG,
I love your little stool--does it have wheels? And your garden sink! Wow! You have given me a great idea. We have water to the barn, and I have my potting shed in one of the old stalls, so if I can run a water line to the potting area, I can have an outdoor sink and not have a kitchen sink full of garden dirt from washing veggies. You are an inspiration! Thanks so much for the great idea!
And, of course, your garden looks fabulous. Nice tomatoes!

I love that sink.

Where does the sink drain lead? Do you collect it for reuse in the garden?

RE: Start frying the bacon..

The sink is about 6 feet from a faucet spigot so I just have a short hose hooked from the faucet to the sink....I can disconnet if I need to for any reason but the spigot has a double hook up on it so I usually just leave it hooked up. The drain is hooked to a piece of PVC that runs down and out under the end of the cabinet and runs out into the grass...It is done that way so that I don't have to stand in a puddle of water all the time...the drain pipe is about 8 feet long and it has a flexible section so I can move in in any direction that I want to water...

My stool doesn't have wheels it is the first one on the link below but if you notice...the second on the list does have wheels....I guess it would be nice to have wheels but mine is very easy to move around...I just life my rear end and tug it in the direction that I want to move.....It truly is the best investment ...my husband actually ordered it for me as a surprise...I forget what we paid for it but as I recall it was about half of what they are in the ad I linked.

Here is a link that might be useful: My stool.

I couldn't do anything in the garden without my kneeling stool. You flip it over to cushion your knees and then flip it back to sit on. And it folds up. I'm in love with it, and my husband wants one for himself.

I think I know the one you are talking about...It's cool. My husband picked mine out for me and it works great...I don't kneel anyway...I could never get up if I did.

I would be picking a few of those now for some wonderful Fried Green Tomatos. I can wait on the BLT's if I have FGT.

Ruthie, you have the best husband ever. *love*

I'm getting to the point where I'll need a garden stool, too - my getter-upper doesn't work as well as my getter-downer, so one of those stools that flips over to be a kneeler is looking better & better.

I've got a few green tomatoes, too, but I'm jealous of your beans! Mine are just now blooming. I wish they'd hurry up - my new potatoes won't be new for long!

Fried up the bacon last night w. my first kale harvest of the summer!

Ruthie

Ah, this is the thread I missed! Did you got the rocker one (first one listed)? I considered it, since it has a larger base that isn't as likely to sink into the soil but then rejected it because some people reviewing it said it was apt to tip you over if you lean backwards on it too far! If that ever happened to me, I'd have to crawl a long distance in the clay before reaching something I could hang onto to get up.

Yes, you mentioned your sink in another post, and certainly made me covet something similar! We probably won't put in a sink but rather set up a table on the grass with a water faucet to clean off veggies under the oak tree near the garden. I figure I can use a large metal bowl for rinsing as well as bringing clean veggies into the house.

Thanks for the info about the drain.

DH saved the old, stainless steel, sink from our kitchen remodel and is going to build me a similar setup.

Ruthie, that looks so nice! One of my daughters bought me a set of knee pads, last year, for Fathers' day. That revolutionized my gardening as I do so much on my knees and though I'm only in my 50s, sometimes the knees complain. Now I can "walk" down and row, on my knees, in comfort : )

That outdoor sink looks super practical!

mmmmm...BLT

Maybe a BLPT w. those open pepper flowers now Steve

RE: Start frying the bacon..

I got a potting bench with a sink from leftovers from a kitchen remodel last year. It's the best and I only bought about $10 in plumbing parts.

There's running cold water and the sink drains into a short length of hose that dribbles into the veggie garden nearby.

Herb pots on potting bench

I'm getting ready to fry bacon too. I've got small tomatoes on Momotaro, Tessaloniki and Black from Tula. Also good sized ones on Dona, Cherokee Purple and Black Cherry. The tomatoes on Carmello and Sungold are about to break.

RE: Start frying the bacon..

Oooooooooo...BLPT...even better! Or maybe make the BLT, take a bite of it, bite of pepper, bite of BLT, etc.. ;-)

RE: Start frying the bacon..

I didn't do a kitchen remodel cause my house was only built 3 years ago but I wasn't paying attention to the sink that came with our model and it was way to shallow for any serious washing so my Beloved had it changed out and I thought it was a great idea to use it outside.

Ooooooh! Ruthie, I am so very jealous! We have had a very chilly month of May. I haven't even put beans in the ground! (they usually go in Memorial Day) And the tomato plants went in just a week ago. Since then we had two frost warnings, so they are less than a foot high. It will be a long time before I have any BLTs !!

 o
RE: Start frying the bacon..

Gawd, I can't wait. Your garden is very nice.

 o
RE: Start frying the bacon..

Ruthie......is that stool one of those tilty things? I've been looking at those at the store, and wondering how they do. Do you like it?

 o
RE: Start frying the bacon..

Someone mentioned that they read a comment that they were very easily tipped over and therefore you could find yourself on the ground...Only once did I find that to happen and I didn't actually land on the ground just almost...but the tippy part is really a good thing because as you lean into the bed, it goes with you so you don't have to raise your buns to get to the back of the bed. The stool tilts forward...It's called a rocker stool and that is what it does. I can't compare it to any others because this is the only one I have ever had and it works great...One of those with wheels might be nice for moving around but honestly I weigh enough that I'd be concerned that it wouldn't move with me on it...LOL

PS that first tomato is orange...so I'm thinking 3 days till feast time...

 o
RE: Start frying the bacon..

I'd like something with wheels too....but like you, I'm thinking they would dig into the ground too much. Plus, unless it was electric, I'd probably totally destroy my knees trying to push it sideways while sitting.
Some really smart engineer should get to work on better stuff for some of us to use in the garden!
Enjoy that first BLT!
