Okay.. so I am bound and determined to grow tomatoes here in W.NY. I have planted them, sprayed them for insects and diseases, watered them diligently, poured the correct amount of miracle grow fertalizer on them every 7 days and still... still.. they are not deep green but at least they are flowering somewhat.. am I doing anything wrong now? Does lime amendments help? Perhaps sprinkling some gold and silver shavings? Ok, maybe not that.. but those plants are still showing stress.. could it be because our weather has sucked so bad here.. one day 85, next day 55 degrees.. evenings in the upper 60's, then lows around 45-50... argggg

Can you post a photo? From your description, your plants sound fine. It is possible to kill with too much kindness, so I would try not to obsess too much. Flowering is good. But without seeing them, it's hard to say.

Yes. Pics help. Watering diligently?? That doesn't sound good. Long deep soaks every few days and mulch too regulate moisture loss is much better than a little water EVERY day.

Even here in inland Socal, I water my maters deep about once a week right now. I MIGHT increase the frequency in the near future just to prevent cracking on maturing fruit, but the plants themselves don't really need more.

Agree with Kevin that the over-watering needs to be curtailed. So does all the heavy feeding. Both are stressors for the plants.

You don't mention if they are in the ground or in containers and if containers how big are they? Plus do they have pests or diseases? If not why are you spraying? The sprays, when not needed, are just another cause of damage and stress.

And just incase you didn't know, there is a Growing Tomatoes forum here. It is direct linked from this forum front page.

Thanks guys! They are in ground. Yeah the watering issue may be the culprit. I will curtail this..

Yeah, Early in the season with cool temperatures, and occasional rain, West NY State, plants won't need a lot of watering. I have not watered mine for longer than a week now. Some are nice green, some are slightly light green. I guess it also depend on the variety and genetics to some extent.
