Avocado problems

We have grown this avocado from a seed (I know it won't taste the same, etc but it's a fun project to see it grow) It's maybe two years old, a single stem, and about 3 1/2 feet tall.

It's had brown edges for a while due to salt burn according to an arborist who came to the house. But are the brown spots salt burn as well? I can't find a good image that matches this problem exactly. Anyone know?

It's in a pot - I just repotted from a 10" to a 12" pot, with palm/citrus/succulent potting mix.

I flushed it with 4 gallons of water or so. More flushing? Fertilizer? I haven't fertilized it yet. Would fish emulsion be a good Nitrogen source for it?

Any help is much appreciated!!!!

Don't need a fruit expert for a common problem, especially of potted plants.

That pattern of browning indicates it ran short of water. Likely on several different occasions.

Next challenge is to figure out why. Some thoughts:
high temps
low humidity
excessively windy
avocado is rootbound
avocado has root rot

"high temps
low humidity
excessively windy" yes yes and yes!
I'm hoping larger pot and mulch will help retain water and stay more consistent.

i just repotted it recently so it isn't root bound now though it was root bound before. and i don't know about root rot - how to tell? smell?

Hot, dry, & windy. Sounds as if you might be in SoCal.

As for the wind, rig a temporary windbreak or set the pot in a sheltered place, even if in the garage for several days.

If root rot, the roots (especially the tips) will be dark and unhealthy looking.

yes in socal indeed. hellish weather the last few days...feels like october!

i was afraid it had a disease but fingers crossed it is just the conditions which i can change.

i will keep it more consistently moist - and protect it from the wind. thanks jean!
