| Does anyone have any idea as to why asparagus tips turn brown and kind of dry out?
I am letting my grass fern out and most of the fern tips are turning brown as well as the new growth. It also seems that once the new growth starts to brown and dry out it stops growing. Any Ideas? |

| How cold was it at your place a week ago Sunday morning? 26 at my house in central Oakland Co. LOTS of frosen asparagus emerging spears. Just the way it goes some years, what you are seeing is frost/freeze damage. |

| On another note, does anyone mulch their asparagus after it starts to fern? My bed is weed free but I do not want to tend weeds all summer if i do not have to. |

| Yes, deep mulching helps a lot -- 6 inches of something like pine straw, regular straw, oak leaves works wonders at keeping down most weeds. |
