Lettuces new growth bubbly?!

The newest leaves on my week ago or so transplanted lettuces have developed bubbling and appear Savoyard although they are not savoy types. What's wrong with them? And it's not subtle either. Ill post a pic soon.

Here's a pic. And it's happening on more than one variety of lettuce.

Environmental damage - usually excess sun exposure or heat if not properly hardened off first although heavy rains can also contribute to it just as with leaf edema.

I wouldn't worry about it, the plant will take off soon. The new growth will not be the same as the potted greenhouse growth, new growth will be crispier with more texture. The plants go through a lot... grown in a greenhouse, all crowded together in a small cell, then thrown outside into the elements, then transplant shock, then a rabbit nibbles on the leaves... but they still grow.

The only problem I worry about with lettuce in Ohio is getting it to good size to eat by the first week of June, because the lettuce gets a bitter taste in June, then bolts at the end of the month.

I'm struggling to see what is wrong with those leaves. There are a couple of small pits which could be environmental damage as digdirt says and a maple samara bottom right but most of the waviness and slightly frilly appearance looks just like normal growth for many red lettuces to me. The newer central leaves are curlier which is par for the course. Do you remember what variety you sowed?

So all the leaves that were curled have died but the rest of the plant looks fine. But all the new growth is still coming up that way so I imagine I should just pull them?

Floral: it's Red Cross from Johnny's. I grew it last year too. Didn't have any problems last year.

Oh dear - you're right. Picture two certainly shows something going very wrong.
