Interesting experience with green onions from grocery store

Interesting bit #1;

For years I have clipped of a few green onion roots and buried them in the back of some remote border for the flowers. Quite a variety of old bulbs are found under the soil; unfit to eat. ''Green'' onions at the grocer must be whatever the produce man has available.

Last winter I tossed a handful of green onion roots in a new raised bed that was being filled with new dirt. They were about a foot deep but green leaves poked through this spring.

Today we dug some out and they look young leeks. Long straight white stems bigger than a man's thumb. And quite tasty.
