Hi all, This is my first season of gardening and my garden is booming so I'm wondering what else I can plant! OUr own pumpkins for halloween would be awesome, is it too late? Any and all advice welcome, thank you :) PS I have raised gardens but I thought I would just let the pumpkin vines sprawl along the back fence on the ground in our unlandscaped back yard. |

Go for it! If you think about it, you have over 4 months to get them ready for Halloween! I've found, unless you have tons and tons of room, at least for the giant pumpkins, you start them in pots and the vines will take off in the direction that your 3rd set of leaves is pointing. Most people just start them in the ground, but a pumpkin farmer who my hubby carves portrait pumpkins for, gave us this tip. You can also go to pumpkinfun.com for lots of great advise and fun Halloween stuff! Nancy |

| Thank you Nancy! I will do the pot route. I think the kids will really enjoy watching the pumpkins grow! |

| Here in my Zone 8 garden they say the last chance to plant pumpkins for Halloween is the fourth of July. You have plenty of time. |

| From what I understand you can plant in june-july and have a pumpkin ready for carving by Halloween. |

| Planting late, you have a better chance of missing the borers. |

| if you plant late, cover plants with tulle netting until they start flowering. That protects them from borers/squash bugs. |
