 o
mulching spring crops?

Last year I posted a question about mulching beds in the spring, before you plant, to avoid weeds. The advice everyone gave me was that if I mulched now, the soil would remain cooler, longer so I should wait to allow the soil to warm. My question this year is, I finally got my act together earlier this year, and planted some broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, lettuces, peas and beets. Would it be OK to mulch these beds now, since they are cool weather crops, or should I wait? I'm seeing all sorts of little weeds sprouting, and with a recent back surgery (3 wks ago), bending isn't the best for me right now. I'd like to mulch to avoid too much weeding.

Have your crops emerged yet? If so, go ahead. If not, they'll suffer the fate of the weeds.

Yes, I planted seedlings for most of what is listed, except for the peas, beets and a few lettuces. Everything is up, including the weeds!

Depends on your soil temps. If they are 50 or above, I'd say you are better off mulching now.
