Mid Spring update

Just wanted to show my progress this year. Not doing as much as i normally do because of the drought but still got my peppers, toms, and a couple other things.

Peppers (annuum) 4 red bell, 3 Big Jim Anaheim, 3 Poblano(Ancho), 2 Jalapeno, 2 Guajillo(Mirasol), 2 Chilhuacle Negro, 1 Cascabella. All of them progressing nicely and putting out blooms. That's also some Bright Lights and Rainbow Chard off to the right.

My container peppers-

A sad yellow Bell(store bought) -- had some extra 5-1-1 and wanted to see how large fruited annuums do in larger than 5 gal containers(15 gal). My theory is that they tend to tucker out(smallish fruit) after the 1st flush in 5 or 7 gal. We'll see!

Chinense varieties ---

A runt of a Red Bhut Jolokia. Hoping this runt turns out as good as my runt last year.

And another Red Bhut -- lighting is off...plant looks gorgeous

Maters --

Celebrity...Anybody ever tried these? Wanted to try something than the old Early Girl's I do every year

Romas -- trying some determinates in barrels for the 1st time. Goes against my thinking on tomatoes in containers(should not grow them). But I thought maybe determinates wouldn't be too much for them. Got 3 in barrels and 1 in ground

Kale (winterbor, I think. Picked it up at Wamart. I've been growing Starbor for years but my last plants were in the way of my peppers, so had to pull them. Wanted "some" kale and was late to start seed, so I tried these in containers.

And last but not least... my very 1st avocado tree. Too bad I'll probably be dead before I get a bowl of guacamole out of it.

Thanks for sharing - always fun for me to see peoples gardens, especially this early. My peppers and tomatoes will stay inside under lights for a few more weeks.

Lol on the avocado tree and guacamole. Looks really nice. I can't wait to get all my plants in the ground but currently the forecast is calling for possible snow tomorrow! Ack!

What do you use the Chile de Arbol for? Does it have good flavor?

Now, why will your avacado be dead? My DH grew up in Pasadena and there were enough avacados that they would have wars with them as kids!
You're even south of Pasadena! Nancy

Mandolls: Thanks. I love it that you people from the upper midwest enjoy pics of us people in warm climates. Instead of being jealous, you get inspiration. Love it!

Aili: Wow! Sorry to hear that. You must be in a different part of Utah from where these Santa Anas originate. Supposed to get in the 100's this week from another Santa Ana. Hope you warm up soon.

Slimy: A must grow for me. Very prolific but exclusively a dried chile. Exceptional flavor--- One of the best of ANY chile! You like Mexican food? It's a true workhorse! Semi high on the scoville scale, but it's not a scorcher at all.

nancyjane: Me.. I'LL be dead. Not the tree...LOL I will have to worry about it a tad in the winter, though. It's semi hardy but it's threshold on right on edge of our lowest winter lows. There are ways to deal with it though, so I'm sure I'll be employing some of those tactics.
