I'm wondering what I can do. It's been raining almost every day this month, and it's been too cold. One of my Pumpkins are working on growing its 3rd real leaf. I heard re-potting is bad for these things. It's too cold to plant directly, as it won't germinate then. What do I do? I have 3 Giant pumpkins, 3 or 4 butternut squash, and about 7 Acorn squash growing inside. The Giant pumpkin is the only one in the most advanced stage.

You can transplant squash and pumpkins as long as you do it carefully, try to avoid damage to the roots, and baby them for a few days afterwards. They're vigorous plants and they want to live. I'd just bump them up to something bigger, like one gallon pots, and let them grow in those until the outdoor environment improves. I do this every year with summer squash in order to get bigger ones to put out -- start them really early and put into one gallons. The ones I did this year had actual squash on them when I planted in the garden about 10 days ago, and are doing great.

Send us some rain! I could actually see one drop hit the patio, evaporate, and then another drop hit. Thankfully and eventually, under the downhill corner of the patio table, there was a moist area about 1.5 ft in diameter on the concrete. That's it for the last 3 weeks. Talk about brown, I'm thinking of starting a cactus farm in my back yard (in central Indiana).
