Transplanting raspberries Need to know ASAP!

My neighbor is moving and said I could dig up as many of her established raspberries as I would like!
We went over and picked a bunch today, and it seems that the plants are separate and would be easy enough to dig up (soil seems very well amended and digable)
The problem is, My soil where I would want to plant is way past the 2 weeks of the year (almost exagerating) that we are able to dig in our clay soil! The owner of the other property is a jerk, and wouldn't let me take them after the tenant's time is up (this weekend)!
So, can I dig them up and keep them in pots for several months until fall when the rains start again and we can dig again (sorry, we have 2, 2 week times to dig, fall and spring)
OK, yes, I know raspberries are not veges, and I could go to the container board, but I get more "in general" info from this board! Most of the "experts" seem to come here!
Thanks for any info! I need it quick! Nancy
