squash bugs underground

All the sudden one of my climbing zucchini started growing strangely, its leaves curling and tight like they were having muscle cramps. The fruit that was a foot long stopped growing. Then the plant started dying rapidly. I pulled it, hoping that the problem would not spread to the other plants. To my surprise, I found two squash bugs on the ROOTS of the plant -- underground.

I had checked the plants every day and had not seen a single squash bug on the plant. Bummer. Now I'm wondering if they laid eggs and if there might be a bunch of little bugs hiding in the soil. Any thoughts as to what to do about this?

I decided I will dump a gallon or so of water with dawn soap in it on the area of the pulled plant, soak the pulled plant in another gallon of soapy water and put a bowl of the yeast and water sollution in the area. I only have three plants left and so far only one of these interesting tromboncini zucchini to eat. I sure don't want the rest of the plants dying now!
