Asparagus sending up new shoots?

Posted by Toller1 6 (My Page) on

I planted crowns last year, but I picked a spot for my garden that didn't get enough light, so I moved them this spring. In doing so I lost a lot of roots, but they came up nicely in the new location. I didn't harvest anything and now have many big ferns.

I just noticed that they are sending up new shoots. I read a bunch of articles on growing asparagus, and none mention a second "crop".

What do I do about them? Let them grow, eat them, dispose of them?

Leave them be.

This is pretty common. Let them grow to nourish the crowns for next year's crop.

I get new shoots after heavy rains.
