They way I did it (tho I am not sure it was necessary) was to remove a tassle and whack it against the silks. I did this once per day for about a week.

I think anything you do to get pollen transfered including the use of a brush is just fine. In most cases where corn is planted in a block I don't think it's necessary tho. Just a safety measure.

That's what I do whether it needs it or not. I just snip off one "branch" of a tassle and brush it along the silks. I do this when there's pollen visibly wafting off of the tassles. When it seems spent, I'll grab another and keep going.

blocked from the all wind, pollination will occur naturally. The problem generally is NOT wanting pollination to occur in which case you cover the silks with a bag or something similar.
