| In early spring I asked (and received) advice on support methods for "bush" type peas. I had previously only grown "pole" types.
I decided to go with the pea stick method. I am happy to report that this was wildly successful. I used forked branches from apple tree prunings and spaced them several feet apart and 3 feet tall. There mas absolutely no maintenance involved. The vines took hold and grew into a thick canopy among the sticks. I am now harvesting and it is so much easier than either the pole or sprawling bush harvests I had in the past. No vines breaking when the pods got heavy. no step ladder to reach the top tier of the pole varieties. Pea sticks is the way to go. Tonight we are having new potatoes and peas in a white cheese sauce. |

| And the best thing about them, IMHO, the branches are disposable, so no spending hours trying to pull pea vines out of fencing. Just bundle or bag and put to the curb, or chip or shred and compost. |
