| This looks like mosaic but I'm not sure. When I took a look at my plants this morning, the tomatoes are doing well but the cukes look bad. We went on vacation for four days, came back, and the cucumbers were totally wilted. I watered them pretty good, and now there are ants all over them and they look like this.
Is it worth it to put them in the ground at this point?
I'm gardening organcially. I've heard that I can spray with chamomile tea. I could also try soap and water.
Or, is it too late at this point to just plant some seeds in the ground?
I'm a newbie - any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |

One thought I had was that they need to get into the ground as soon as possible. If I do this, any tips for planting? I know I should make a little mound... should I add fertilizer, compost, something into the hole before I put the plant in? Thanks again!

I wouldn't give up just yet. I say go ahead and plant them and see what happens. I don't think you need to make a mound when you are putting transplants in, that is mainly for when your planting seeds. It looks like you have 1 plant per cell maybe try planting 2 or 3 of them together in groups than maybe plant some seeds in the area you save planting them that way. That way even if they all grow you will have a staggered harvest.

Not virus. white spots likely environmental cause. When plants wilt, cells die.

it is a target leaf spot from humid hot temps common in green houses. just need to start a copper fungacide program. once a week until the weather gets hot. put down a granular fert and use a liquid fert when planting as a starter solution. compost helps when planting. it loosens and aerates the soil.

Bluethumb, I agree with jean, those are probably just some dead spots from when the plant wilted. They look pretty good otherwise, plant them and I'm sure they'll be just fine.

Steven is right!!! That is leaf spot and treatable with fungicide like he said. Plant them without treating and the leafspot will get worse. Fungal diseases spread with water carrying the spores from leaf to leaf so when you water keep the foliage dry

Cukes start quickly from seed, and don't transplant very well when they're over the 2 leaf stage. If you have seeds, I would go ahead and direct-sow them. You can put these ones in the ground too if you've got space, but then you'll have the new seedlings as backup if these fail to thrive and you decide to pull them.

Mine look a bit like this, too. I bought them from the local organic farm, and didn't get them into the ground right away. Then a few days went past. They wilted, and all of that. I just got them in the ground, and watered them last night and this morning. I only have marigolds in the bed with them, as I haven't decided what else to plant there, yet. I am thinking dill and lettuce. Would mixing this:Mix 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar (5% acidity) with one gallon water and spray in the morning on infested plants. Good for black spot on roses and aspen trees too.---is that enough to help this?

that would work with the apple cider vinegar.
