Pumpkin Question

These pumpkins (about 4-5 plants here) came from last years Halloween pumpkin, which I tossed into the compost. The seeds must have sprouted, so I carefully transplanted them to this patch this spring little over a month ago, I think. How is their growth for this length of time? I see a bunch of flower buds forming, which I'm pretty sure are mostly, if not entirely male. I've read this is pretty common, and that the females should be arriving within a couple weeks, is this really normal?

I also wondered about that one bit of vine that grabbed onto the fence there, and started climbing vertically. Should I just leave that section be? Can pumpkins that grow off the ground like that survive, or will they be too heavy and damage the vine? Thought maybe I should chop off that section to divert the plants energy back to growing horizontally (left in that picture) into my yard as I hoped.
