This happened to me too. Cucumbers don't like being transplanted. Early flowing means the plant is probably stressed. You still have time to direct seed.

I am experiencing this too! My cukes were just transplanted to the garden and are already flowering. One plant has 2 flowers, the other has 3! They are even a bit smaller than the one pictured above. I have read some advice that suggests removing flowers when the plants are so young to allow time for roots to grow etc.. does this make sense in this situation?

This happened to me when I gave everything in my garden nitrogen shock.. I still let those plants (as well as all the others, and I've had some interesting results.. lol) go but they aren't doing well at all.. I went back after they didn't pick up, and reseeded some more in their spot (they were thinly planted to begin with).

I know if this happens to me ever again I'll just not waste the time with it and get started on replacements immediately.

What is the ideal size for a cucumber plant to start flowering?

Mine flowered fairly early and is growing a decent sized cucumber from the lowest/first flower. I think the other 2 female flowers failed to get pollinated. The cucumber is still growing like a champ though and it was a transplant from a start I bought from a nursery.

If you provide the good growing condition, they will resume normal growth. This happened to me once. There was a gourd plant , out of my garden in a hard clay soil. It was about a foot tall, yellow and had few flowers on it. I dug around it, removed the clay , as much as possible and replaced with good garden soil , watered it and took care of it. The plant dropped the flower and start growing and became a big healthy gourd plant ,with tens of feet healthy vines ,with many gourd on it.
