First thing I noticed was the view also -- very nice. Everything in the garden looks great too - everything well organized, tidy and it appears you've got all bases covered.

How bags of dirt did they take?

I did a modified mel's mix: 25% vermiculite, 25% peat, and 50% compost... and it has settled quite a bit.
It did take some initial investment.
I am able to compost and will be placing more in when I can.

Each bed is approx 4x10 so each would take 40 cubic feet to fill.

4x10 is 40 square feet and does not consider the depth. How deep are your raised beds?
