Well, my first planting has tasseled and the silks came out about 3 days later....that is normal.

What variety are you raising? Different varieties can be better adapted than others to certain growing conditions. I have no advice for you, but suggest that you reveal variety, how thick the plants are, and soil fertility. Without watering and getting some cooler weather, you may be out of 'luck'.

am growng Shumway's NK 199 & Kandy King. Whole garden on soaker hoses on timers & plenty of fertilizer so don't think either of those things would be a proplem but we have had many days of over 100 degrees & New Mexico is in a record drought. The pollen/tassels & ears with the silk seem to not be coming out at the appropriate time! Other plants (tomatoes, cukes, zucchini, chile) doing even better than usual!

Have you considered raising something less than a giant variety? Also, have you had success in the past with other varieties in other years?

Again, I ask how thick the corn is....that might hinder a giant variety from earing up.

I much prefer the older varieties of sweet corn that have retained the 'corn' flavor ... actually on the farm we ate field corn while it was young & that is what I liked! The newer varieties are sweet.. but to me lack the 'corn' flavor so I tried these two varieties to see. I have always grown corn so this & last year are the only problems I have had! E-mailed our County Extension Agent to see what may be the problem...
