It is in the 15-20 lb class, not very big at all maybe twice the size of a Sugar Baby. I am curious as to where you found seeds It is an old hybrid introduced in 1971. It has been years since I have seen one. Green striped melon like Crimson Sweet but a lighter shade of green.

I bought 4 seedlings (1st true leaves are just coming in) at OSH yesterday. The tag says it's from Kawahara Nursery in Morgan Hill, CA.

I have 3 cantaloupe in a 2'x4' bed, and bought the watermelon to replace them because I don't think the cantaloupe are going to grow well. But, I just can't bear to get rid of anything! SO, I'm going to grow them over the edge of my second 2'x4' bed, sharing them with sweet potatoes.

Will it be ok to grow the watermelon with the sweet potatoes? I'll be training the SP vines up my deck, away from the watermelon...

Never know until you try. They will need space, the vines will run on average 8 ft from the base. Sweet potatoes can have 6-8 ft or longer vines also, but there are cultivars with 3 ft vines.

I know the seedlings should be 1 foot apart, but would it be ok if they were closer? I want to have them trailing off of the back of the bed below. There's plenty of space for the plants to sprawl, but not for them to grow in the bed...
