Wasabi is notorious for being extremely difficult to cultivate - it has VERY specific requirements to grow, such as heavy shade and shallow, clear, cold running water (in fact the best place for it to grow is a cold mountain stream!) It is a slow grower too, 4-6 months to get a 2-inch high seedling and 16-20 months before it's ready to harvest. This is quite an undertaking, I hope it goes better for you this time!

My Wasabi are growing better than the last year but I am very curious about these plants. Are they real wasabi? I have bought the seeds from Amazon.

The wasabi leaves are heart shape but this one is not, are they too young to get the shape?

Please let me know how to know this one is real in this growing stage.

Can't give you any growing tips, but here's something interesting I learned: the prepared wasabi that you buy in the tubes at the grocery store isn't even real wasabi, it's horseradish that is coloured to look like wasabi.

Donna, thank you for the reply. Your are right, horseradish are cheaper than the wasabi so many restaurants use it.
