I planted asparagus crowns about 3 weeks ago and have yet to see any growth. I picked up the crowns at Lowe's and I think they were 2 year crowns of Jersey Knight (all male). I dug trenches and spread the crowns out like an octopus over a mound of soil, then covered with about 2 inches of enriched soil. I enriched the beds with rock phosphate and compost before planting. The bed get some shade from being under a tree (it is on the left side of garden, underneath apple tree) but I've been keeping moist and weeding and it has been sunny and warm. At this point is there any hope of sprouting?

Give them time. You planted late, the crowns may have needed more time to recover. But they're tough and resiliant.

Much more time. Newly planted crowns can take 8-10 weeks to show any above ground growth as the focus is on the roots. And planting this late will likely delay it longer. Keep them well watered. Dave

Asparagus needs to have good draining soil to perform well. Your enriched soil and compost would have been well served to have had some sand with it. Were the asparagus placed over hard pan non-draining soil there may be a problem with standing water...but at any rate, have patience, I remember it took almost 2 months before my ass-per-grass came thru...
