| Hello! My snow peas are almost finished... when I pull them, can I plant pole beans in the same place? Is that ok for both plants and soil? Or should I plant something entirely different?
Thanks! |

| Yes, its fine. Go ahead. The beans will actually benefit from having the beneficial symbiotic bacteria already present from the pea roots. |

| Great -- thanks! |

| Actually, the beans use a slightly different subspecies of N-fixing rhizobia, so you don't get a readily-transferable biological benefit. Indeed, the new rhizos for the beans will have to fight for domination over the pea strain. Still, it does work and gives you use of the trellis. However, most people rotate into cucumbers or another vining cucurbit if the growing season is long enough. A good friend and great gardener prefers to rotate into carrots, saying the carrots prosper when planted after peas. |
