I hate onions

Due to my violent distaste for onions, I don't know if these overwintered 'red torpedo' (I think) onions currently in my sweet potato bed that I purchased and planted in a moment of weakness- SomeOne likes onions- are worth harvesting? Transplanting? Planting the sweet potatoes around? What are the chances that these are, or will become "edible"?

Wow! Not me! If it wasn't for garlic, onions and peppers, I wouldn't know what to do in the kitchen.

Growing them, on the other hand, I need to get better at. So, I can't help you there. From my experience, I'd say they're not going to do anything more if they've grown THAT long.

They look edible but puny. Don't think they'll get much bigger.

Definitely worth harvesting! The green part looks quite edible, as though they stopped at the spring onion stage, so it looks like you can use the whole thing. Maybe SomeOne will enjoy finding a use for them?

Don't know if I read it someplace, or if it's just a feeling, but it doesn't seem like the sweet potatoes would appreciate sharing their bed with alliums.

Onions, garlic, and potatoes are things I use a lot, but I just can't bring myself to grow them because of how cheap they are. I understand some people love different non-supermarket types of garlic...but I'm fine with the general plain white garlic sold in groceries.

One cheap thing I do enjoy growing, though, is carrots. There is a wide selection of "non-storage" carrots out there that are so super-sweet and tender...stuff that's hard to get at grocery stores.

I love growing potatoes- there's such a wide selection that you don't find in grocery stores!

Ok, I let them be for the moment and I will harvest them (using tongs, maybe) the next time SomeOne's looking for onions. I'm kind of curious to see if they do put on more size, since I think what size they do have they put on this year.

I've never been happy with my carrots becuase I never get a sweet taste out of them.

Napoli and Nantes carrots are both good.

As for those Onions, I'm sure you could at least use the greens. I'm not sure why you hate Onions so much. I bought an 80 pack of sets for about $3, planted them in March, and they started to swell one or two weeks ago. The plants are big and healthy. I don't think I fertilized them, and they are in their own row. Maybe it's because of the potatoes that they look like that.
