I am helping weed a friend's garden and noticed this weed. I am wondering what this weed is. photo 20140625_124725_zpszblibzli.jpg

It looks like it is a tomatillo or a ground cherry. Any chance the friend grew those in the past and they re-seeded?

I agree. Tomatillos and ground cherry plants look very similar, only tomatillos get much bigger. Both re-seed like crazy if fruit drops and gets left on the ground over the winter. I have volunteer ground cherry plants all over the place this year.

I never even thought about tomatillos but they do look exactly Iike them. I think she might have grown tomatillos in the past, so I bet that is what they are. I left a bunch just in case but I pulled lots of small ones out of her beans, lettuce and onions. I know for sure she did not want them there. They were everywhere. Thank you very much for your help!

Definitely a tomatillo. Ground cherry plants tend to have more fuzzy leaves.

Tomatillo, 100%
