Thanks for your post. I dont think they are whiteflies, they are brown in color for except of that tail that is white and does come off. They also jump like a flea but I have been looking thru the net at all the flea beetle photos I see and they dont look like them except for the behavior of jumping. A few of them have jump to my hands and you definitely feel the impact...

I don't know the name, but I also have plenty of them every year on my vegetables, as well as roses, daylilies and other plants. It does not seem like that they do much harm. I just ignore them. They can bu quite abandant.

Are those the things that make the patches of white fluff on the stems? Never did figure out what those were or if they were dangerous or not.

Edy, the things that make the white fluff are mealy bugs.. I don't think that's what that image is, but it isn't exactly a close up lol...

Not whiteflies and not mealybugs...but the picture is not adequate for an identification, at least not from me. If I were FORCED to guess (lol), I'd suggest that it might be a nymph of one of the many plant hopper insects.

They are 'jumpers' and often look like they have a fluffy butt. Or fluffy stuff coming out of their butts. You know what I mean.

I agree is not the best photo. My cellphone camera is great but dont do macro. Here is a couple of photos using my kodak. I took them late so if there still not clear enough I will break the tripod and take some tomorrow during the day... thanks for helping.

My plant is healthy by any other means. I do have a few leaves that look like something ate on it, sorta what you would expect from flea beetles but then again, not sure these are flea beetles....

Guess what? I was right.

They are nymphs of some kind of plant hopper. See that little greenish bubble on the butt of upside-down one? That would be 'recycled' cucumber sap. ;-)

Plant hoppers insert their little needle like mouthparts into the vascular system of plants and suck away.

Yep, leafhopper nymphs, they did a number on one of my watermelons last year. Squish those buggers! Watch out too, they can bite...at least the adults do, not sure about te nymphs though. I think de is supposed to do a good job on them, but not really sure. I think insecticidal soap would work , but would probably require a "direct hit"

I have some worryfree spray with their name on it. Been reading for a bit and it seems there is not much organic stuff to kill them...
