Zucchini/Summer Squash Overcrowding

So, I'm new to vegetable gardening and I thought I planted 3 plants in this tire. Turns out there are actually 5 plants and I am worried about overcrowding. I have two zucchini plants and 3 patty pan squashes. I am wondering should I prune back the leaves? Should I cut back the weaker plants to make more room? Or should I just leave them alone?
So far the zucchini seem to be doing alright but the patty pan squashes seem to be growing slowly. There is space underneath the tire for the roots to grow (I mixed compost in with the existing soil underneath).
