Yellow head, brown with dark stripes?

It looks like a small beetle and it has invaded one of my melon plants-I killed three but some jumped off the plant and disappeared.

Does anyone know what it is?

I am in Northern Virginia-I don't have a digital camara so can't post pictures. Again, it is small, beetle like, has a yellow head, a tan body and dark brown stripes.

That doesn't look like my beetle but it is close, my bug has a body that is definetly more brown and a head that is bright yellow.
I am going with the idea that it is a major pest though and not anything I want crawling around in my plants.
