NOTE: When I say this I am NOT asking about repotting leggy pepper plants into a bigger container to give them more room until they're ready to be transplanted out (that is they're not starter plants that are still in the process of being grown to plant out). These are pepper plants that are ready to be transplanted outside, have been hardened off, and will be put in the ground/containers outside. Some of the starter plants I have with pepper plants are leggy. I Know if you have leggy tomato plants, you can just bury the leggy part of the plant, and it will form more roots if you bury the leggy portion. Can I do the same thing with transplanting these leggy pepper plants?

Yes, it is possible for peppers to send of; roots from their stems. But it is much slower than with a tomato and peppers seem to have considerably more difficulty in doing it than do tomatoes. So I don't recommend counting on them to do so. Angie

Agree with Angie. Though side rooting isn't a reason to do it, it can be done and is a great way to stabilize leggy seedlings. Kevin

I'm not doing it to form additional roots with the pepper plants; I'm just wondering if burying the leggy part of the pepper plant will be detrimental to it with transplanting? Yes or no? Please help and thank you in advance; thank you also to those who have posted on my thread so far.

I would plant them a little deeper IF there are suitable soil conditions to go deeper. Sometimes in some cases with moisture and soil types, it is hunkly clamy wet down deep.
|
Your question has been answered above in Slimy's first post. But yes, leggy plants can be buried deeper. Dave

without being detrimental...lol Kevin
