Striped Cuke Beetle

I noticed a yellow and black stripped beetle (slightly elongated body) by my cukes today. I'm pretty sure it was a striped cucumber beetle.

I've seen the spotted cuke beetles before, first time for a striped. The spotted ones don't seem to get large enough numbers here to do damage. Are the striped ones similar to the spotted ones in terms of behavior and feeding patterns?

I'm thinking watch and wait approach is probably valid since I only saw one.

They were horrible earlier for my cukes and zukes. Little better now. I am hoping to get enough of growth before new generations will come.

They are more limited in their damage. The spotted beetle's larva is aka the corn rootworm. The stripey's larva is less trouble.

The real problem with both of them is the spread of bacterial wilt.

There are several versions of corn root worm beetle ...all bad for corn and many vegetables ...and there is the striped cuke beetle.

I try to kill off any live over adult cuke beetles in May. An ounce of prevention saves 899.

Alas, I never see a single cuke beetle in the spring. They emerge in massed hordes at the height of summer, obviously through spontaneous generation.

tilton,, The live over first generation wakes up in mid May here. If you have any of those and emerging cucurbits, they go like a magnet on them and can destroy those small seedlings in a day or so.

If you don't see that generation, then they are generating anyway somewhere and the next generation comes out about the end of June or so...multiplied.

Even if you get later ones, if they are promptly taken care of, 899 stitches can be saved....just a little bit of Sevin sprayed on top of a few leaves at dusk will really decimate them.
