I have bad knees and have a lifted golf cart that lets me accomplish so much more than I could otherwise. I actually really look forward to watering my garden. I drive my cart up next to it, with the hose, and sit there and water. I see all sorts of birds.........red-headed woodpeckers, blue heron taking off from the creek, baby birds of all types learning to fly, hummingbirds..... The hummingbirds LOVE for me to put up a gentle shower for them, and they seem to absolutely love sitting on top of one of the tomato cages and just enjoying the shower. I get to look at all the plants as I'm watering........talking to them, appreciating them....thanking them. It's one of the really wonderful moments in my life.

catherinet - Nice to know! Its these joys in life that make it so beautiful :) I have a very small garden, my wheelbarrow can barely make it thru LOL but yes I do enjoy just looking at all my plants everyday and spending time with them. My family sometimes thinks I love my plants the most :D

I don't look forward to watering large areas, but I do like to weed when needed.

I don't usually get to do the watering, DH does it of a morning when I'm at work, but I do like to putter around every evening when I get home from work, seeing how everything is doing and giving "pep talks" to the tomato plants. It is so peaceful and a great way to unwind. I was just telling a friend the other day that I think it's my garden that keeps me sane! Glad to hear others actually enjoying the process, too. Edie

I go with the best of both worlds. My garden is on a drip and a timer. For the most part, I can ignore it and it waters itself. But when we have a run of especially hot weather, or I'm growing new seedlings, I do some hand watering. I also hand water when I'm feeding the plants with fish emulsion. I'm a little weird because I love the smell of the garden after I've fed with fish emulsion. It smells like the lake and reminds me of good times on my brother's boat, LOL

I know that smell loribee! It is a good one. Reminds me of fishing in the rain once when I was little.

I usually get a soaker hose set up, but gee darn, had to take 2 weeks in Hawaii! I do like hand watering! It's "therapy" for me! (anything to do with water is therapy to me!) It also allows me to poke in around the plants, look for veges (especially hiding zukss! and hiding green beans!), look for bugs and critters! Just FYI, Cath, there is a forum for disabled gardening. I check it out from time to time cause I have a bad back and contribute from time to time cause I've worked with many people with physical disabilities. My chiro LOVES my adapted things in the garden! Nancy
