Storing Potatoes

We are considering storing potatoes in wood crates this winter at about 42 degrees temp. The crates are about 12"x18"x9.5" and we plan to stack them and cover them to keep out the light. Will this method keep potatoes stored well in your experience - in the absence of a root cellar?

RE: Storing Potatoes

Potatoes like it cool, dark, and moist. ..38° With the storage you plan, they may or may not do some sprouting in January or February and if so, they need the sprouts broken off.

In the meantime, I prefer to leave them in the ground unless it is unduly wet.
