| One of my pumpkin plants grew through my gait and now I have a 4" wide pumpkin suspended about 6" above the ground. What should I do? |

| Enjoy your nice round pumpkin without any flat spots! Seriously, if it grows too large and the vine can't hold it securely without strain or kinking (which is only a maybe, not a definitely) then most people would recommend putting the pumpkin itself in a sling of sorts rigged to the fencing, made out of a soft stretchy material like an old t-shirt or pantyhose. It's done all the time, google "growing squash vertically." |

| Can't delete a double post (or any post). Just edit it as you did. Agree with Lily about the sling but wood underneath the pumpkin should work as well. Rodney |

| crikey.. leave it be.. and learn about how the plant deals with it ... why do you think you need to 'fix' it ... its not like this is going to be the only pumpkin on the vine ... if you always want to fight ma nature... you will often lose... but if you observe her... there is a lot to learn ... and she rarely fails.. except in living up to your expectations.. as far as i am concerned.. i lay wood in garden beds.. to attract slugs ... good luck with wood ... i dont recommend it ... ken |

| hanging it in pantyhose will give you a perfectly shaped pumpkin-putting it on wood will flatten the bottom. best looking pumps i ever had came from the vines growing into and up a 10 ft hedge. |

| Your pumpkin looks great :)! There are photos of what people do with trellising and they are pretty creative and amazing. I have even seen a picture of squash growing up a tree that happened by mother nature's design online so pumpkins can grow in many different ways successfully. Some people swear that the stems are actually stronger than those grown on the ground and that mother nature is prepared. I don't know if that is true or not. I am actually growing some things up a trellis for the first time this year so maybe I will find out. |
